The path of a journey...
All the poetry books I have read in my life make up a journey. Many: some initiatory, others as epilogues, perhaps as mere paths. Few: an anabasis. A rising from the depths of oneself, and *Las Ciénagas* is one of them.
It is the repeated return to the marshlands, to absences, to masks and deceptions, to silences and shadows, to the enchantments of the flesh and its desires, toward the quiet longing for calm and the contemplation of the skies, toward the absence of guilt transmuted into yearning, toward the sacralization of words and pure feelings. Toward the bare emotions that Daniel Posse sifts, sometimes stripping them of words, severing articles, and at others adorning them with beautiful metaphors—those through which beds bloom in his verses, foam becomes courage, and hands turn into pathways. It could not be otherwise, since consciousness is composed of them, of metaphors and symbols through which we recreate our own unconscious. To return to the unconscious, and to return to the marshlands, at the mercy of desire. It is, for all of us, almost a design—agreed upon and denied. It is, for all of us, a matter of time. No matter how much an anabasis it may be (perhaps precisely because of it), all journeys end up being circles. Ouroboros. Rising, resurfacing—these are forms of returning. Living is that other way of coming back.
Let us unravel the vital path, which becomes essential as it returns to the primordial marsh through memories bristling with verses, images, and words, with the solidity that takes shape and then fades. After all, as a single and unalterable design, these are the verses of this marshland—Daniel Posse’s marshland.
